Softball Drowns CMSV Dolphins Amid the Raindrops, 17-5

Patchogue, N.Y. – Well, they couldn't play two, but both teams scored enough for multiple games in game one of the scheduled doubleheader between St. Joseph's (8-7, 3-0 SKY) and Mount Saint Vincent (5-10, 4-1 SKY) this afternoon.  The 17-5 contest in favor of SJC, was played through raindrops that ultimately resulted in game two of the Skyline contest being washed away.

The Golden Eagles wasted little time battering the Dolphins with ten runs in the first inning on only five hits and six walks.  Three of the walks came with the bases loaded starting the merry-go-round early on for the first three runs. Casey Thomas hit into a fielder's choice for the fourth run, Tara Bernocco singled home two and then Gianna Gulli brought home the seventh run with a hit. Megan Leun topped it off at ten as she boomed a bases loaded double clearing all the ducks off the pond.

The Mount got a homer in the second and a pair of RBI doubles in the third to chip into the lead, but SJC put up a seven spot in the bottom of the third.

Gabrielle Cinquemani smacked an RBI double to left center and then CMSV errors resulted in three more runs.  Lindsay Corriss made the Dolphins pay for their miscues by following with an RBI triple and Leun capped it with a RBI single.

Mallory McClafferty went five innings for SJC allowing five earned runs and picking up her fourth win.

St. Joseph's will travel to Brooklyn College tomorrow and then return home early in the week for non-conference doubleheaders against Stevens and FDU-Florham.
