Softball’s Split With FDU-FLorham Snaps Win Streak

Madison, NJ| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) softball team saw its nine-game winning streak snapped after splitting a non-conference doubleheader with FDU-Florham, 1-2 and 15-1, on the road on Sunday afternoon.

The split sees the Golden Eagles move to 12-8 on the year as the Devils go to 8-15.

FDU 2, SJC 1

The Devils broke the deadlock in the fourth inning via a Paige Lille solo homer, but SJC found an equalizer in the top of the fifth inning when Elizabeth Rohme (2-for-2) scored Jillian McFadzen (1-for-1) with an RBI-single to right.

After a scoreless pair of innings FDU would earn the walk-off victory in the bottom of the seventh when Liz Kelly scored Frannie Jarin with a sacrifice fly.

Lauren Buturla got the start for SJC and allowed three hits in only 2.2 innings of work. Sandra Foster (2-2) struck out four and took the loss.

SJC 15, FDU 1 (5 innings)

After a scoreless first inning, SJC exploded for nine runs in the second inning. Valerie Scura (1-for-4) got the scoring started with a 2-RBI single up the middle, and Elise Garu's (3-for-3) 2-RBI double to left wrapped the inning's scoring.

Up 10-0 in the top of the fifth, SJC tacked on five more runs to go up 15-0 before to FDU's Rebecca DeCarlo notched a solo homer in the bottom of fifth (15-0) for the afternoon's last score.

Theresa Cardello (6-2) allowed two hits in 3.0 innings for the victory on the mound. Ashley Blydenburgh fanned two batters and allowed three hits in 2.0 innings of relief work.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Wednesday, April 10 when they host William Paterson in a non-conference doubleheader at 4:00 pm. Live stats available here.
