Bronxville, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) softball team scooped up a pair of victories, 4-0 and 9-4, when it toppled Sarah Lawrence College in a Skyline Conference doubleheader on Saturday morning.
The wins see the Golden Eagles move to 8-8 overall on the year and 4-0 in Skyline play as the Gryphons slip to 6-11 (1-5 Skyline).
SJC 3, Sarah Lawrence 0
The Golden Eagles took the lead in the third inning when junior Franzelyn Russo (1-for-4) scored on a passed ball by the Sarah Lawrence catcher. The score would remain 1-0 until the sixth inning, when SJC posted three runs.
After freshman Kassandra Tibbetts (1-for-3) scored sophomore Aryana Caputo (0-for-0) with an RBI single to left center, junior Ashley Accardi (1-for-2) drove in a pair of runs when she belted a two-run homer to left field.
Sophomore hurler Katelynn Valente (1-1) struck out four and allowed five hits in a complete-game effort.
SJC 9, Sarah Lawrence 4
SJC took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first but fell behind 3-1 in the bottom half of the inning. After sophomore Lindsay Ness (3-for-4) scored freshman Jenna DeFina (3-for-4) in the top of the third, junior Meagan McClinchey (4-for-4) tacked on three additional runs with a three-run homer to give the guests a 5-3 lead.
Sarah Lawrence got one back in the bottom of the fourth (5-4), but the Golden Eagles scored four more runs over the next three innings to clinch a 9-4 win. Sophomore Lindsey McKenna's (0-for-1) ground out to second that scored McClinchey in the top of the seventh capped the afternoon's scoring.
Freshman Patricia McGloin (2-1) took the win, struck out four and allowed four earned runs in the pitcher's circle.
The Golden Eagles return to action on Monday, April 1 when they host the College of Mount St. Vincent for a Skyline Conference doubleheader at 4:00 pm.
