Softball Splits with Farmingdale on Saturday

Farmingdale, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) softball team split a Skyline Conference doubleheader with Farmingdale State on Saturday afternoon. The afternoon's results move the Golden Eagles to 12-10 overall on the year and 8-2 in Skyline play as the Rams move to 13-13 (11-1 Skyline).

SJC 3, Farmingdale 2

With the score tied 1-1, Farmingdale took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the third, but SJC responded in the top of the fourth when sophomore Zoe Kelly (1-for-3) scored freshman Victoria Iavarone (0-for-0) with an RBI double to left.

The Golden Eagles would find the winning run in the top of the sixth when freshman Jenna DeFina (3-for-4) scored freshman Catherine Zucker (0-for-0) with an RBI single up the middle.

Zucker (5-3) struck out five batters and allowed four hits in a complete-game victory for the Golden Eagles.

Farmingdale 1, SJC 0

A low-scoring affair that generated just one run, game two's winning tally came in the bottom of the fourth when Farmingdale's Aleysha Midgett (1-for-3) scored Mirren O'Mahony (0-for-0) with an RBI double to right center.

SJC's DeFina and sophomore Kassandra Tibbetts both went 2-for-3 in the contest.

Sophomore Katelynn Valente (1-2) started in the pitchers circle for SJC and tossed 4.2 innings. Junior Alyssa Rivera provided 1.1 innings of relief work.

The Golden Eagles return to action tomorrow, April 14 when they head to Fordham University for a Skyline Conference doubleheader with Yeshiva University at 6:00 pm.
