Patchogue, NY| Senior Jackie Zizzo scored 20 points on 7-11 shooting to give the St. Joseph's College (L.I.) women's basketball team its first win of the 2016-17 season in a 70-36 victory over Medgar Evers on Tuesday Night inside the Danzi Center. The Cougars now fall to 0-1 to start the season.

Tied at two early on in the first quarter, Jennifer Gubell drained a pair of three-pointers to put the hosts up 8-2 at the 6:59 mark. Later, up 8-7, Zizzo would spark an 11-0 run banking two three-pointers to close out the first quarter with a 19-7 lead.

Zizzo opened up the second frame with another made three-pointer to push the Golden Eagles ahead by 15 (22-7). Andrea Iavarone would cap of the scoring for the Golden Eagles collecting six-straight points to walk away with the 33-19 lead at the break.

The Cougars started to inch back into the game closing the deficit to 14 (39-25), but Zizzo's three ball would spark a 13-2 run for SJC. Alica Indence was responsible for eight of the SJC's 19 points in the third quarter to help the Golden Eagles take a commanding 52-27 lead.

Indence scored the opening field goal in the fourth quarter before the two teams traded baskets but the Golden Eagles were able to maintain a 14-point lead over the visitors (55-31) at the seven minute mark. From there out the Cougars failed to come any closer than 14 points to the Golden Eagles as St. Joseph's cruised to its first victory of the season.

In addition to shooting 7-12 from the field, Zizzo shot 6-11 from three (tied for most three-pointers in a game by a Golden Eagle) and added three rebounds, four assists and two steals.

Indence (17 points), Iavarone (10 points) and Jennifer Gubell (12 points) all reached double-digit scoring as well. Iavarone's 11 rebounds were a team-high as she notched her first double-double of the year.

St. Joseph's shot 41% from the field and held edges in points-off-turnovers (20-12). The Golden Eagles also broke the school record for most three-pointers in a single game (16).

The Golden Eagles return to action on Saturday, November 19 when they welcome CCNY to the Danzi Center for an 8:00 PM tip-off. Live stats will be available here.
