Brookyln, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) women's basketball team was defeated by Brooklyn College 74-55 on Monday afternoon at the West Quad Center. With the loss, the Golden Eagles see their season mark fall under .500 (1-2), while the Bulldogs improve to 2-0.

In match that saw one lead change, Brooklyn would get on the board first courtesy of an Olivia Colbert layup just four seconds into the game. Andrea Iavarone would sink a pair of free throws which sparked a 12-0 run to give SJC an eight-point lead (14-6) at the 3:24 mark. However, the Bulldogs, would end the first quarter with a 6-0 run to tie up the game 14-14.

After falling behind 28-16 at 6:37, back-to-back buckets by Iavarone and Jennifer Gubell cut the Golden Eagles' deficit to five points with 3:13 to play in the half. The two teams traded baskets as the Bulldogs closed off the second quarter with a six-point, 32-26, lead.

Brooklyn scored nine of the first 11 points to start off the third quarter to extend their lead to 11 points (41-30).  The Bulldogs would eventually pull away from SJC closing out the frame 61-42.

Jackie Zizzo's three-pointer would pull the Golden Eagles within 17 (68-51) at the 4:19 mark. St. Joseph's did its best to keep the score close but the Bulldogs would cruise to a 74-55 victory.

Iavarone led the game in scoring with 23 points in addition to adding 14 rebounds en route to her third-straight double-double of the season.  Zizzo was dropped 15 points, grabbed four boards, recorded three steals, and was credited with three assists. Juliana Cintron-Leonardo went for 12 points and four rebounds.

Despite outshooting the Bulldogs (37.5%-34.4%), the Golden Eagles shot just 54.2% from the free throw line.

The Golden Eagles will begin conference play when they take on Yeshiva University on Tuesday, November 29 at 8:00pm. Live stats will be available here.
