Women's Basketball Edged by John Jay in Home-Opener

Patchogue, NY| The St. Joseph's College women's basketball team dropped a 75-67 non-conference home-opening decision to John Jay College inside the Danzi Center on Saturday afternoon.

The Golden Eagles slide to 0-2 on the season as the Bloodhounds move to 1-2.

Freshman Catherine Siounis paced the Golden Eagles with 17 points on 8-for-15 shooting and eight rebounds.

Freshman Emma Lange finished in double figures with 13 points with sophomores Alyssa Signor and Megan Steinman pitching in with 12 points apiece.

The Bloodhounds were led by Lily Rakitzis with a game-best 34 points on 11-for-18 shooting from the floor and 12-for-13 from the free-throw line. All'aha Albright finished with 16 points and Nyasha Howard rounded out the top scorers with 10 points and a game-high 19 rebounds.

Trailing 45-24 at the half, the Golden Eagles came out of the break firing with a 7-2 run and with less than three minutes left in the third, Steinman's triple pulled the hosts to within nine, 52-43.

SJC got to within four, 59-55, in the fourth quarter, but the Bloodhounds held on down the stretch for the 75-67 win.

As a team, John jay outshot the Golden Eagles 39.3% to 30.3% with a 55-44 rebounding advantage.

St. Joseph's returns to action on Wednesday, November 20 when they travel to face CCNY at 6:00 pm.
