Women's Basketball Suffers Loss to USMMA

Patchogue, NY| The St. Joseph's College women's basketball team dropped a Skyline Conference matchup with the United States Merchant Marine Academy 68-58 in the Danzi Center on Wednesday evening.

The Golden Eagles slide to 4-12 on the season with a 2-9 mark in conference play. The Mariners improve to 11-3 overall, 9-2 Skyline.

Freshman Alyssa Adomaites led all players with 24 points on 8-for-16 shooting from the field. Sophomore Megan Steinman finished with 12 points and five boards.

USMMA had five Mariners finish in double digits with Taylor Hightower coming in just shy of a triple-double with 17 points, 12 rebounds and nine assists. Kaleigh D'Arcy recorded 15 points and Julia Dahlke finished with a double-double of 13 points and 10 rebounds.

SJC held a slight 9-8 advantage following a Siounis jumper midway through the opening frame, but a 10-2 USMMA run closed out the first quarter with the visitors leading 18-11.

An 18-12 second quarter went in favor of the Mariners who went on to take a 36-23 lead into the break.

The Mariners used a 55.6% performance from the field in the third quarter to jump ahead 56-40 heading into the final frame. The Golden Eagles used its best shooting in the fourth with Adomaites dropping in seven points leading SJC to an 18-12 advantage in the quarter, but the Mariners managed to hold on for the 68-58 win.

As a team, UMMA shot 40.8% from the field with St. Joseph's just behind at 39.3%. The visitors had a 10-rebound margin, 44-34, and maintained a 36-24 advantage in the paint.

The Golden Eagles continue Skyline action on the road at Manhanttanville College on Tuesday, January 28. Game time is set for 6:00 pm.
