Women's Lacrosse Downed by New Paltz

New Paltz, NY| The St. Joseph's College women's lacrosse team dropped a non-conference decision 16-11 on the road at SUNY New Paltz.

The Golden Eagles slide to 0-2 on the season as the Hawks improve to 1-1.

Junior Tori Staker finished with a game-best six goals to go along with two groundballs and three caused turnovers.

Freshman Melissa Newman pitched in with four goals and game-highs of eight draw controls and six ground balls. Freshman Makayla Byrne added one goal and two ground balls.

New Paltz had a trio of Hawks finish with three goals in Tara Bovich, Katie Zito and Amy Hofer. Keydey Espinoza collected a team-best seven draw controls with a pair of goals.

With both teams knotted at seven at the half, Staker's free-position goal opened the scoring in the second frame giving the Golden Eagles an 8-7 lead. After a 4-0 New Paltz run, it was Staker again finding the back of the net at the 15:54 mark to inch SJC back within two, 11-9.

The Hawks added five unanswered goals creating enough space to take away the five-point win.

SJC's Julianna Hernandez finished her day with 14 saves as her counterpart Haley Timarky recorded 10.

The Golden Eagles remain on the road as they travel to face Stockton University on Saturday, March 7. Game time is set for 3:00 pm.
