SJC’s Tarik Appears on NSCAA’s '30 Under 30'

Written by Joshua Soto (SJC-LI Sports Information)

Kansas City, MO| Newly hired St. Joseph's College (L.I.) women's soccer coach Salma Tarik was selected for the National Soccer Coaches Association of America's (NSCAA) prestigious "30 Under 30" program, which recognizes the top young coaches in the country annually.

The program, launched in 2013, "is a year-long education and mentorship opportunity for a select few up-and-comers who have made soccer coaching their career of choice." The program was created to "support fledgling coaches and foster their growth at a crucial point in their vocation."

The 2016 class features 15 men and 15 women selected from 350 applicants who will be exposed to "the Association's membership, and have the opportunity to take advantage of educational offerings, such as diplomas and the NSCAA Convention."

Tarik was hired at SJC in April and arrived from Division II Mercy College, where she served as an assistant for the men's soccer team. A former collegiate star at Hofstra University, where her 28 career goals are fourth all-time, Tarik has worked as a staff coach for East Meadow Soccer Club's premiere club in the northeast region since 2011.

Tarik will lead SJC onto the pitch for the first time on Thursday, September 1 when the Golden Eagles host New York University at Danzi Stadium for a 7:00 PM kickoff.
