Patchogue, NY| Two second-half goals by the Knights were the difference as the Mount St. Mary's pushes past the St. Joseph's College (L.I.) women's soccer team, 2-1, in a Skyline Conference matchup at Danzi Stadium on Saturday afternoon. With the loss, the Golden Eagles fall to 4-8-1 (3-2-1), while the Knights improve to 5-8 (4-2).

It took until the seventh minute for Mount St. Mary's to register its first shot of the match, as both teams had a battle for possession in the early going. The Golden Eagles saw their first scoring opportunity in the final minute of the half when a streaking Christina Gagliardi played a ball on the right side taking a shot that veered just wide of the goal.

The Golden Eagles were credited with two shots in the first half compared to MSMC's seven. The Knights held the advantage in corners (7-2) as well.

The Knights wasted no time to get on the board in the second half scoring in the first five minutes of the frame. Stinson created her own opportunity to score when she delivered a strike to SJC goalkeeper Samantha Wedderburn who parried the shot, Stinson was able to collect the rebound and slot it past Wedderburn for the 1-0 lead.  The Knights kept the ball on the offensive front firing 10 shots before netting their second goal of the contest. MSMC's second goal came in the 80th minute, when Emily Schuer took a free kick from 25 yard out and banged it home for the 2-0 advantage.

In the 89th minute SJC was able to cut its deficit to one when Gagliardi took an audacious shot, just past midfield, to chip it over Mary Riley. However, the Golden Eagles failed to score the equalizer, dropping their contest 2-1.

Despite doubling their shot total (4) in the second half, the Golden Eagles were outshot by the Knights 28-6. Riley was forced into making two saves, while SJC's Wedderburn made 14 saves on the night.

The Golden Eagles are back at it on Tuesday, Oct. 11 when they travel to take on the College of Staten Island in a non-conference tilt. Kickoff is set for 5:00 PM. Follow the match with live stats here.
