Women's Soccer Beats the Bears, 5-1

Patchogue, NY| The St. Joseph's College-L.I. women's soccer team picked up a 5-1 Skyline Conference win over St. Joseph's College-BK at Danzi Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The Golden Eagles improve to 7-6-1 on the season with a 6-1-0 conference mark. The Bears slide to 6-7-0 overall, 1-3 Skyline.

SJCLI opened the scoring when senior Christina Gagliardi finished a feed from sophomore Gianna Castilletti in the 10th minute of play. Just nine minutes later, freshman Abbey Curcio took the ball up the far side and put a shot passed Bears keeper Reem Shaban to make it 2-0.

Later in the half, Karissa Rutigliano sent in a short corner kick to Curcio who gave it right back for the senior to curl her shot right to the back of the net to extend the SJCLI lead to 3-0. Gagliardi recorded her second goal of the afternoon in the 25th minute just before the Bears got on the board courtesy of an unassisted tally from Julia Lavelle sending the teams into the break at 4-1.

Senior Jaclyn O'Shaughnessy buried a penalty kick in the lower right corner for the only goal of the second half for either side bringing the game to its final 5-1.

SJCLI outshot the Bears 30-7 with a 14-2 corner kick advantage.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Saturday, October 19 when they host Sarah Lawrence College. Game time is slated for 12:00 pm.
