Women's Tennis Earns 7-2 Win Over Sage in Conference Opener

Latham, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) women's tennis team earned its second victory of the season, as they handed The Sage Colleges a 7-2 loss in the team's Skyline Conference match at Tri-City Tennis on Saturday afternoon. The Golden Eagles are now 2-0 (1-Skyline) on the year as the Gators slide to 0-2 (0-1 Skyline) on the year.

The tandem of Emily Portal and Kerri McMahon earned the first point for the Golden Eagles after taking down Lindsey Tolman and Shanice Mendeoza 8-1.  Victoria Panicola and Alana Caporale took the second point winning their set 8-4. Nora Burnett and Erika Hesselbrig completed the doubles sweep after a hard earned 9-7 win.

Shanince Mendoza got the best of Portal earning a 4-2 win to pull the Gators within two (3-1). Kerri McMahon won her second consecutive match at the #4 singles slot with a 6-3, 6-0 win. Amanda Post sealed the win for the Golden Eagles with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Sammantha Montague.

Panicola defeated Shanessa Mendoza 6-4, 6-4 on the third court, as Nora Burnett took her opponent to a tie breaker 6-6 (7-3), and 7-5 for SJC's seventh point of the night.

The Golden Eagles will be back in action tomorrow, September 11 when they take on Bard College at 2:00 PM.
