Golden Eagles Shine at Second Annual SJC Invitational

South Huntington, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) men's and women's indoor track and field teams returned to action on Saturday morning at the Second Annual SJC Winter Invitational at St. Anthony's High School.

Jessica Pierno paced the women's side with a first place finish in the long jump with a 4.80m finish. She also placed second in the shot put event with a distance of 9.32 meters. Gabrielle Mason became the first-ever pole vaulter in program history and recorded a 2.90m jump.

Taylor Darby clocked in at 3:43.27 in the 1000m run, which was good enough for a second place finish. Monica Grismer (3:56.38) and Marissa LoSchiavo (3:56.88) both finished in fourth and fifth, respectively.

Megan Lavery earned a first place finish in the 3000m run with a time of 12:31.24.

The 4x200-meter relay team of Amanda Sprague, Kristina Schrepf, Gabrielle Cetta, and Jennifer Holownia finished in second place with a 1:55.53 time.

Kelly Roberts, Samantha Maurice, Holownia, and Darby, recorded the meet's best distance-medley relay with a 14:29.96. Sprague, Pierno, Holownia, and Schrepf completed the 4x400-meter relay with a first place finish clocking in at 4:19.81, which was a program's best.

Maurice, Roberts, Lavery, and Abigail Lehr, rounded out the first-places finishes for SJC with a 11:05.17 time in the 4x800m relay.

For the men, Brian Frejka, Mike O'Shea, Chris Corrao, and Brian Merle placed sixth with a 1:42.50 time in the 4x200 meter-relay. John Suchopar, Tim Elgort, Nick Diaz, and Ryan Haun clocked the meet's best distance-medley relay with a 11:49.92 which was good enough to earn them a first place finish.

Daniel Antonawich, Merle, Matthew Haugh, and Nick Russo ran the 4x400-meter relay finishing in fourth with a time of 3:59.94. Lastly, the 4x800-meter relay team of Diaz, Suchopar, Elgort, and Haun finished at 8:57.55 which was good for second place.

Nick DellaPace broke the school record for the weight throw tossing a distance of 11.53m. He also placed seventh in the shot put with a 11.21m.

The Golden Eagles return to action on January 30 at the Ramapo College Indoor Select at 9:00 AM. The event will be held at the New Balance Track & Field Center in New York, NY.
