Kings Point, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) women's volleyball team suffered a pair of losses to Farmingdale St. (3-2) and U.S. Merchant Marine Academy (3-1) in a Skyline Conference tri-match played in Kings Point, NY on Saturday afternoon.
With the losses, the Golden Eagles slide to 4-13 (1-3 Skyline) on the year as Farmingdale moves to 9-6 (5-1) and USMMA to 9-6 (4-1).
Farmingdale 3, SJC 2
In a five-set thriller, the Golden Eagles took the first set in commanding 25-13 fashion but dropped set two 25-9. SJC edged the Rams 25-21 in the third set to go ahead 2-1 in the match, but consecutive fourth and fifth set wins by Farmingdale—the latter of which finished 18-16—saw the Rams clinch the come-from behind victory.
Senior Kiersten Kissinger was credited with 14 of SJC's 41 kills in the match. Courtney Bocchieri contributed 10 kills of her own and Courtney Wickline dished out a game-high 35 assists.
Sophomore Danielle Senecal's 21 digs were also a game-best.
USMMA 3, SJC 1
After dropping the first two sets, 25-21 and 25-15, the Golden Eagles edged the Mariners 25-21 in the third set to force a fourth. Despite drawing back to within one point (17-16) in the fourth frame, SJC suffered a 25-19 defeat and took the 3-1 match loss.
Leading the Golden Eagles' attack was Bocchieri, who went for a team-high 15 kills. Kissinger went for 10 kills and junior Jessica Montesserrato collected a team-best 18 assists.
Senecal's 26 digs were a game- and career-best.
