Women’s Volleyball Sweeps Maritime, Mt. St. Mary on Sunday

Newburgh, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) women's volleyball team collected a pair of 3-0 wins over SUNY Maritime and Mt. St. Mary College at a Skyline Conference tri-match in Newburgh, NY on Sunday and extended its winning streak to four games.

With the wins, the Golden Eagles improve to 8-13 on the season and 3-3 in conference play. Following play on Sunday, SJC sits just outside of the Skyline playoff picture in seventh place.

SJC 3, Maritime 0

After a tight first set that saw the Golden Eagles eventually win 25-20, SJC cruised to 25-15 and 25-13 wins in the second and third sets, respectively.

Seniors Courtney Bocchieri and Kiersten Kissinger went for a game-high 11 kills in the win with the latter also being credited with seven digs. Courtney Wickline dished out a game-best 30 assists and served up five aces, and Danielle Senecal collected 16 digs.

SJC 3, MSMC 0

After playing to a 7-7 tie early in the first set, SJC used a massive 12-0 run overwhelm the Knights and go up 19-7, but an 11-1 stretch by the hosts brought the game back to within two points (20-18). In the end, a Bocchieri kill was the decider as the Golden Eagles took the first frame 25-23.

SJC would carry its momentum in the second and third frames where the guests earned 25-10 and 25-23 wins, respectively.

Bocchieri again led all participants in kills, this time with 13. Wickline went for 34 assists and Senecal was credited with 25 digs.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Friday, October 21 when they host Monroe for Senior Night at 7:00 PM. Live stats will be available here.
