Women's Volleyball 2019 Season Preview

Patchogue, NY| After a successful 2018 season featuring an appearance in the Skyline Conference Championship Tournament Finals, the St. Joseph's College women's volleyball team is selected to finish fourth in the Preseason Poll as voted on by conference coaches.

The Golden Eagles finished the 2018 season with a 21-12 overall record and a 7-2 Skyline Conference mark. SJC entered postseason play as the No. 3 seed taking down No. 6 St. Joseph's College-BK and second-seeded Mt. St. Mary College both by a score of 3-1 before falling to fourth-seeded College of Mt. St. Vincent, 3-0, in the finals.

Returners: In his 15th season at the helm of the Golden Eagles, Tobey Pantophlet brings back six returners including three-time Skyline All-Conference selection senior libero Danielle Senecal to lead the defense. All-Conference junior Jessica Young led the Golden Eagles with a .262 hitting percentage a year ago returns as well as sophomore Amanda Goldstein to patrol the middle. Setter Brionna Silva will look to guide the offensive attack of juniors Kaitlin Williams on the outside and Carolyn Hayes on the right side.

Newcomers: Joining the SJC squad is sophomore transfer Melanie O'Hoppe who looks to bring experience to the outside along with freshman Kayla Martin. Fellow newcomers Lauren Harmer and Veronica Miessmer all expect to make an immediate impact.

When they begin: St. Joseph's is set begin its 2019 campaign Friday, August 30th when they travel to Seguin, TX and face McMurry University. The Golden Eagles will take on Louisiana College and Howard Payne University before returning home on Saturday, September 7th when they host Western Connecticut and Penn. St.-Abington in the Danzi Center at 10:00 am and 1:30 pm respectively.
