Three Golden Eagles Named Winter/Spring Skyline Conference Scholar-Athletes of the Year

New York, NY| Three St. Joseph's University, New York (L.I.) student-athletes were named Scholar-Athletes of the Year when the Skyline Conference released its end-of-season academic honors on Monday.

Graduate Paul Curaro (men's volleyball), Jillian Hummer (women's lacrosse), and Spencer Malloy (men's basketball) were among the honored in their respective sports. The Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award is presented in each sport to the first-team All-Skyline performer who carries the highest grade point average (minimum 3.30) for the semester in which the student-athlete competes.

Curaro boasted a 4.0 spring GPA and was named Men's Volleyball Player of the Year this season. The outside hitter led the team in total kills (323) and kills-per-set (3.71) and was fourth in hitting percentage (.310). The Holbrook, NY native led the Skyline and was fifth nationally in aces (75) and aces per set (0.86). This season, he broke his own SJC single-season kills and aces record.

Hummel led the Skyline with a .536 save percentage, which was good for 12th nationally. The goalie finished second in the conference averaging 11.67 saves per game posting a career-best 20 saves against Maritime on 4/1. She had a 3.957 GPA in the spring.

Malloy, who had a 3.88 combined GPA for the 2021-22 academic year, finished ninth in the conference in scoring (15.2 PPG) and fifth in rebounding (8.0 RPG). Additionally, he was third in field goal percentage (54.9%). He was St. Joseph's only First-Team selection.
