Baseball Splits with St. Joseph's-BK in Non-Conference Showdown

Patchogue, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) baseball team split a pair of non-conference contests with sister school St. Joseph's College (Bklyn) at Gregg Alfano Field on Saturday afternoon.

The Golden Eagles move to 3-5 on the season with a 2-4 conference mark. The Bears picked up its first win of the season and now sits at 1-10 overall, 0-6 Skyline.

Game One: SJCBK 4, SJCLI 3

The Golden Eagles grabbed an early lead with two runs in the bottom of the first courtesy of an RBI single from Phil Krpata (2-for-3 R, RBI) and an RBI triple to the right-center gap off the bat of Anthony Raucci (1-for-2, 2RBI).

The Bears answered and then some in the top of the fourth when Louis Lombardi skied a double to left clearing the bases and putting Brooklyn ahead 3-2.

Raucci's sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fifth brought home Krpata who walked to start the inning and tied the game three.

SJCBK's Anthony Hernandez was hit by a pitch with one out in the top of the sixth and a Lucas Collet's single moved him into scoring position. Hernandez took off for third and catcher Nicholas DiGiralamo's throw ended up in left allowing the go-ahead run to score.

The Golden Eagles stranded a pair of runners in the bottom of the seventh and the Bears went on to capture the 4-3 win.

SJCBK's Matt McHugh earned the win allowing just one run in three innings of relief.

SJCLI's Daniel Deckert was tagged with the loss surrendering one unearned run in three innings out of the pen.

Game Two: SJCBK 2, SJCLI 13

The Golden Eagles rebounded in the nightcap exploding for 13 runs on 13 hits.

The runs came early when Charles Rainone (2-for-4, 2RBI) and Justin Stromski (1-for-2, 2R) each knocked in a run in the bottom of the first.

After SJCBK's Lombardi blasted a solo shot to left in the top of the second, SJCLI pushed two more runs across in the bottom half of the inning moving the score to 4-1.

After plating a run in the fourth, SJCLI sent 10 Golden Eagles to the plate in the bottom of the fifth stringing together five hits and producing six runs to extend the lead to 11-1.

The Bears pushed across their final run of the afternoon in the top of the six before Nick Corsaro's (1-for-2, 2RBI) two-RBI single down the leftfield line sent the game to its final 13-2.

SJCLI's Michael Manzolillo picked up the win allowing one run on three hits with four strikeouts.

The Golden Eagles resume Skyline Conference play when they travel to the United States Merchant Marine Academy on Saturday, April 10. Game times are set for 12:00 and 3:00 pm.
