Baseball Takes Down USMMA, 10-3

Patchogue, NY| The St. Joseph's College completed the Skyline series sweep of the United States Merchant Marine Academy with a 10-3 win at Gregg Alfano Field on Monday afternoon.

SJC improves to 6-5 on the season and 5-4 in conference play. The Mariners fall to 7-3 overall, 6-3 Skyline.

The Golden Eagles scored first with three runs in the top of the first. Two base hits and a walk loaded the bases with no outs for Charles Rainone (2-for-5, 4RBI) who singled to left bringing in Paul Gugliuzzo (2-for-3, 2R, RBI)) and Phil Krapata (3-for-5, 2R, 2 RBI). A sacrifice fly off the bat of Justin Stromski (0-for-3, RBI) brought home Tyler Sanderson (1-for-3, 2R, RBI) to round out the scoring.

SJC extended their lead in the bottom of the second when Gugliuzzo doubled in Joe Sangueldolce (2-for-3, 3R) who worked a walk to start the inning.

After a scoreless third and fourth, the Mariners broke through stringing together three hits to produce a pair of runs in the top of the fifth.

A two-RBI single to center from Krapta and an RBI single through the right side from Sanderson in the bottom of the sixth extended the SJC lead to 7-2.

USMMA scored on a wild pitch in the top of the eighth inning to move the score to 7-3 before the Golden Eagles rallied for three runs in the bottom half of the inning to send the game to its final 10-3.

Ryan Foran (2-0) earned the win allowing just two runs on five hits with the strikeouts in six innings. Michael Manzolillo picked up his first save of the season surrendering a run on four hits in three innings of relief.

USMMA's Ben Kane took the loss allowing six runs on seven hits with five K's.

The Golden Eagles continue Skyline action on Saturday, April 17 when they travel to face Farmingdale State. Game times are slated for 12:00 and 3:00 pm.
