Baseball Completes Skyline Sweep with Split on Sunday

Patchogue, NY| The St. Joseph's College baseball team completed a Skyline series sweep of Farmingdale State College with a split at Gregg Alfano Field on Sunday afternoon.

The Golden Eagles (9-6, 8-4 Skyline) held on for a 4-3 win in game one before falling to the Rams (9-6, 8-4 Skyline) a non-conference bout 9-2 in the nightcap.

Game One: SJCLI 4, FSC 3

SJC's first run came in the bottom of the second when Joe Sangueldolce (1-for-4, RBI) beat out an infield single bringing in Anthony Raucci (1-for-4, R) who doubled to left center earlier in the inning.

A double to center off the bat of FSC's Aiden Hutchins knocked in two runs giving the Rams a 2-1 advantage. That lead was short-lived as Tyler Sanderson (2-for-4, R, RBI) and Charles Rainone (2-for-3) both knocked in runs in the bottom half of the inning to put the Golden Eagles back on top 3-2.

SJC got some insurance in the sixth courtesy of a solo shot over the right-field fence from Ryan Decoursey (2-for-4, R, RBI).

The Rams made some noise in the top of the ninth when an RBI single from Nolan White moved FSC to within one, 4-3, and put runners on the corners with just one out. After an SJC pitching change brought Elliot Robles into the game, White took off for second putting the go-ahead run into scoring position. A failed suicide squeeze attempt caught Bobby Pollock coming home before a groundout to second recorded the final out to secure the 4-3 win.

SJC's Michael Manzolillo improved to 3-1 on the season allowing two runs on five hits with five K's in five innings of work. Bryan Lyons provided 3.1 innings of relief before giving way to Robles who earned his first save of the year.

Farmingdale's Thomas Messina suffered the loss allowing three runs on seven hits with five strikeouts.

Game Two: SJCLI 2, FSC 9

Trailing 4-0 after two and a half innings, the Golden Eagles got on the board with two runs in the bottom of the third. Kyle McLaughlin (1-fir-4, RBI) knocked in Nick Vicino (0-for-2, R) who was hit by a pitch to start the inning. A couple of batters later Decoursey (1-for-3, RBI) singled in Sangueldolce (1-for-3, R) to move the score to 4-2.

The Rams rallied for three runs with two outs in the top of the fifth and then went on to plate a run in each the sixth and seventh innings to capture the 9-2 non-conference win.

SJC sent five Golden Eagles to the mound with Thomas Crispyn suffering the loss allowing two runs on two hits in two innings.

FSC's Christian Esperon picked up the win after tossing three innings of scoreless relief.

The Golden Eagles resume Skyline play when they host Mt. St. Mary College on Saturday, April 24. Game times are slated for 11:00 am and 1:30 pm.
