Baseball Takes Two From Mt. St. Mary on Saturday

Patchogue, NY| The St. Joseph's College baseball team earned a pair of Skyline Conference victories over Mt. St. Mary College at Gregg Alfano Field on Saturday afternoon. The Golden Eagles picked up a 7-2 win in game one before coming away with a 12-2 win in game two.

SJC improves to 11-6 on the season with a 10-5 Skyline mark. The Knights slide to 8-7 overall, 6-6 Skyline.

Game One: SJCLI 7, MSMC 2

The Knights earned an early lead plating a run in each of the first two innings. The Golden Eagles cut their deficit in half when Ryan Decoursey (3-for-3, R, 4RBI) singled in Charles Rainone (3-for-4, 2R, RBI) on the bottom of the second.

St. Joseph's took their first lead of the afternoon after scoring two runs in the bottom of the fourth, 3-2.

Decoursey knocked in three more runs in the bottom in the fifth before Rainone singled in Joe Sanguedolce (1-for-2, R, RBI) in the bottom of sixth to cap the scoring and bring the game to its final, 7-2.

SJC's Kevin Czecoztka started surrendering two runs on three hits with six strikeouts before giving way to Kevin Yohe who closed out the fifth. Anthony Cinquemani picked up the win after tossing two scoreless innings out of the pen.

MSMC's Anthony Pacifico took the loss after allowing six runs on 11 hits with two strikeouts.

Game Two: SJCLI 12, MSMC 2

The Golden Eagles batted around in the bottom of the second stringing together seven hits for six runs. A bases-loaded walk to Sanguedolce (2-for-3, R, 5 RBI) in the bottom of the third pushed the score to 7-0.

The Knights got on the board with a pair of runs in the top of fourth before SJC answered with a four-run bottom half of the inning.

Following a scoreless fifth and sixth SJC's Anthony Raucci (2-for-4, 3R) led off the bottom of the seventh with a double to center. Decoursey (4-for-5, 2R) followed with a single up the middle and stole second putting two runners in scoring position with no outs. A walk to Justin Stromski (2-for2, 2R, 3RBI) two batters later loaded the bases setting up a sacrifice fly by Dante DiMarco (2-for-4, R, RBI) scoring Raucci triggering the 10-run rule and securing the 12-2 win.

SJC's Daniel Deckert (3-3) earned the win allowing two runs on six hits with seven Ks.

The Golden Eagles travel to Mt. St. Mary College for a single game on Sunday, April 25. Game time is set for 3:00 PM.
