Baseball Falls to MSMC, 5-1

Newburgh, NY| The St. Joseph's College baseball team suffered a 5-1 Skyline Conference loss at Mt. St. Mary College on Monday afternoon.

SJC moves to 11-7 on the season with a 10-5 conference record. The Knights move to 9-7 overall, 7-6 Skyline.

The Golden Eagles got on the board first when they rallied with two outs in the top of the second. Ryan Decoursey (1-for-3, R) doubled in the right-center gap and came in to score when the Knights were unable to corral an infield popup.

MSMC answered with two runs in the bottom of the third. Steve Mirra singled to center and came into score on a triple down the right-field line from Jack Goodwin. A batter later, Goodwin gave the Knights a 2-1 lead when he came in to score on a wild pitch.

The next four innings went scoreless before the Knights added three insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth to capture the 5-1 win.

SJC's Ryan Foran (2-1) took the loss allowing two runs on five hits with six strikeouts. MSMC's Robert Brust picked up the win allowing just one run on five hits with nine Ks in a complete-game effort.

The Golden Eagles resume Skyline play when they travel to SUNY Maritime on Saturday, May 1. Game times are set for 12:00 and 3:00 pm.
