Raucci Breaks Hit Record in Senior Day Sweep of Maritime

Patchogue, NY| Senior Anthony Raucci legged out an infield single in the bottom of the fifth inning of a 16-2 win over SUNY Maritime in game two of a twin bill on Senior Day and became the St. Joseph's College All-Time Career Hits leader with 154. The Golden Eagles completed the sweep with a 10-7 come-from-behind win in game one.
The Golden Eagles wrap up the regular season at 15-7 overall, 13-5 Skyline. The Privateers finish at 11-10 on the season and an 8-6 conference mark.
Today's sweep also marks the 150th win over his eight seasons at the helm of the Golden Eagles for head coach Rick Garrett.
Game One: Maritime 7, SJCLI 10
Despite scoring first with runs in the bottom of the first and second inning, the Golden Eagles surrendered six runs in the top of the third and fell behind, 6-2.
The score would remain the same through the next three and a half innings until SJC took advantage of three Maritime defensive miscues and went ahead 9-6. St. Joseph's sent 12 Golden Eagles highlighted by a two-RBI single up the middle off the bat of Phil Krpata (2-for-5, 3RBI) produced seven runs allowing SJC to regain the lead.
Maritime pushed a run across in the top of the eighth, but the Golden Eagles matched it off an RBI single from James McAleavey (1-for-1, RBI) to bring the game to its final 10-7.
SJC's Bryan Lyons earned the win after throwing three shutout relief innings. Anthony Cinquemani picked up his third save of the season.
Maritime's Matthew Paghidas suffered the loss allowing seven runs, three earned, out of the pen.
Game Two: Maritime2, SJCLI 16
After the Privateers put up a two-spot in the top of the opening frame, the Golden Eagles had six hits, including two from Raucci and an RBI double from Tyler Sanderson, and went ahead 7-2.
SJC added four runs in the bottom of the second and the third to take a commanding 15-2 lead.
Following a scoreless fourth and with two outs in the bottom of the fifth, SJC's Nicholas Corsaro singled up the middle allowing Raucci another opportunity to take sole possession of the All-Time hits record. Raucci's sent the ball toward the 5-6 hole where Maritime's shortstop was able to backhand it, but he was able to beat the throw for his sixth hit of the afternoon.
Kyle McLaughlin's RBI single up the middle in the bottom of the sixth capped the scoring at 16-2.
Tyler Villez picked up the win without allowing a hit or a run in his two innings of relief.
Both teams earn spots in the Skyline Conference Championships with St, Joseph's College entering as the No. 3 seed and Maritime as the No. 4 seed. The Golden Eagles will face the second-seeded SUNY Old Westbury Panthers on Friday, May 7 at 2:00 PM. All games will be played at top-seeded USMMA.
