Eagles Grounded in Third Straight to Start the Season

Nashua, N.H. – The Golden Eagles (0-3) fell to the Rivier University Raiders (1-2) on Friday night in the opening game of the Rivier University Tipoff Tournament. Rivier dominated the second half on their way to a 66-49 victory.

St. Joseph's trailed for most of the first half. The Raiders led by as many as six, 17-11 but the Eagles came storming back on a 14-4 run to end the half. Trailing 19-15, Andy Laurent (Amityville, N.Y./Amityville) drained a big three to bring the Eagles within one. Laurent hit two free throws on the next possession to give St. Joseph's their first lead of the night. The Golden Eagles led at the half 25-21.

The Raiders regained the lead early in the second half and never looked back. The Eagles went on a scoring drought in the final ten minutes. They trailed by just three at the 10:49 mark of the second half, but the Eagles could not hit a field goal for the next six minutes of play. Rivier ended the game on a 25-7 run. Golden Eagles shot just 21 percent from the field in the second half.

Darryl Charles (Middletown, N.Y./Poughkeepsie) led St. Joseph's in scoring and rebounding with 16 points and nine boards.
