M. Basketball Shuts Down Poly Early to Grab 21-Point Victory

Patchogue, N.Y. – Sophomore guard Ryan Reidy (Sayville, N.Y./Connetquot) scored a career-high 21 points for St. Joseph's to snap a six-game losing streak and defeat NYU-Polytechnic, 77-56, in a Skyline Conference game.  St. Joseph's improves to 3-9 and 2-3 in the Skyline while NYU-Poly falls 2-10 and 0-6 Skyline.

Reidy's seven field goals (7-for-11) were all from three-point range with four coming in the first half and three in the second.  St. Joseph's was up 45-18 at the halftime break and was up by as much as 30 points in the second half.

For SJC, Jordan Kowalski (North Babylon/Abilene) chipped in with 14 points on 6-for-13 from the field and pulled down seven rebounds.  Darryl Charles (Middletown, N.Y./Poughkeepsie) scored 12 points (6-for-11), had a team-high 10 boards and blocked two shots.

Kowalski and Charles got the Eagles out to their largest lead of the season jumping out to a 23-4 start. The two combined for 19 of the Eagles first 23 points. Polytechnic cut the deficit to eleven when Reidy hit three-pointers on three consectutive possession to put the Eagles up twenty. On the next possesion, Eddie Wenzel (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y./Newfield) added a three-pointer of his own. Reidy then drilled another triple to cap off the Eagles 15-0 run. The Golden Eagles entered halftime leading 45-18.

The second half was a much different story. The Eagles extended their lead to 30 points at the 9:28 mark but a seven-minute scoring drought allowed Poly back into the game. The Golden Eagles were bailed out by three straight shooting fouls that sent Andy Laurent (Amityville, N.Y./Amityville) to the line. Laurent hit five free throws before missing the sixth, comfortably putting the Eagles back up 17. Polytechnic gasped their last breath of air with a three-pointer to cut the lead back down to 14 with a minute left. The Eagles responded with their first field goals in eight minutes to put the game away.

NYU-Poly was led by Jethro Auguste with 25 points.
