Men's Basketball Survives Late Against Mt. St. Vincent

Results:

The St. Joseph's University (L.I.) men's basketball team survived late in a 60-58 win against College of Mt. St. Vincent in a Skyline Conference matchup on Saturday afternoon.

Top performers:
  • Junior Xavier Allen finished with a game-high 23 points, to go along with eight rebounds

  • Junior Spencer Malloy contributed a double-double scoring 21 points and adding a game-high 14 rebounds

  • Graduate Liam Sheehy provided a spark off the bench with six points, nine rebounds, and six blocks

  • DJ Tucker led the dolphins in points rebounds and assists, with 22, nine, and five

  • Adrian Rraci also scored in double figures for the Dolphins with 12 points

How it happened:
  • The Dolphins would score first with their being five lead changed in the first six minutes of action 

  • SJLI would jump out to an early six-point lead, at the 9:03 mark of the first half that was capped by a layup from junior Ryan McNeely

  • The Golden Eagles would hold on to their lead for the rest of the first half

  • St. Joseph's would start the second half strong, gaining as much as a 16-point lead with 5 minutes left

  • Mt. St. Vincent would proceed to go on an 8-0 run, cutting the lead to nine with 1:20 to left in the game

  • Rrarci would score seven of total of 12 points in the final minute of the game to cut the deficit for the Dolphins 

Notes:
  • St. Joseph's outscored Mt. St. Vincent 28-16 in points in the paint

  • The Dolphins were held to shooting 27.1% from the field and 25% from three-point range

  • Mt. St. Vincent had 21 bench points compared to Golden Eagles' eight bench points

  • SJLI held a rebounding edge against CMSV 55 to 45
