Results:

On Friday evening, the St. Joseph's University (L.I.) men's basketball team dropped a non-conference matchup to St. Lawrence, 60-54. 

Top performers:
  • Junior Xavier Allen led the Golden Eagles with a game-high 20 points, nine rebounds, and three steals while also recording one assist and one block

  • Junior Alec Tabada posted 10 points, nine rebounds, three assists and two blocks

  • Senior Spencer Malloy contributed eight points, eight rebounds, one assist and one block

  • Junior Dillon Hod finished with eight points, three rebounds, and one assist coming off the bench 

  • St. Lawrence's Gavin Macaulay tallied 14 points, eight rebounds, and one steal

  • Adam Dudzinski of the Saints secured the double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds, adding one assist, one block and one steal

How it happened:
  • A back-and-forth battle through the first seven minutes of action saw the Golden Eagles pull ahead by eight off a Terrin Roy three, taking a 13-5 lead

  • Just over the midway point of the first half, SJLI would rally a 12-5 run that saw Allen capitalize on back-to-back threes 

  • As the first half was winding down, the Saints responded with a 13-4 run of themselves that was halted by a jumper from Malloy that saw St. Joseph's enter the half up six

  • St. Lawrence took the lead just five minutes into the second half off a Macaulay layup, followed by another Allen three to give the Golden Eagles the lead again

  • A Troy McPherson three-pointer tied the game at 40 a piece with just 11 minutes of action remaining 

  • Over the next five minutes, the Saints rallied a 10-3 to pull ahead by seven, with Allen hitting a clutch layup off the feed from Tabada to make it a five-point game 

  • Clutch free throws down the stretch helped St. Lawrence secure the victory in the end, 60-54 

Notes:
  • St. Joseph's shot 27.9% (17-61) from the field and 35.7% from three-point range

  • St. Lawrence was 19-62, good for 30.6%, while shooting 32.1% from beyond the arc

  • The Saints held an eight-rebound advantage, 50-42
