Men’s Lacrosse Eases to 18-3 Victory over Mt. St. Vincent

Patchogue, NY| Behind six-point performances by sophomore Chris Nielsen and senior Matt Prokesch, the St. Joseph's College (L.I.) men's lacrosse team earned its first 2018 Skyline Conference victory over the College of Mount St. Vincent, 18-3, at Danzi Stadium on Thursday evening.

With the win, the Golden Eagles improve to 4-3 on the year and 1-2 in conference play. The Dolphins slip to 1-4 (0-3 Skyline) with the loss.

Both Nielsen and Prokesch scored four goals and dished out two assists in a contest that saw the duo generate a combined 11 shots.

Senior Casey Hickey recorded a game-high 12 shots and collected three goals and two assists. Sophomore Declan Canevari was perfect on faceoffs (12-for-12) for the second-straight game and scooped up a game-best nine ground balls.

A furious start saw SJC find the back of the next six times in the first quarter. Of those tallies, three came off the stick of Nielsen, who scored at 14:38, 14:15 and 9:12.

The Dolphins opened the scoring in the second, but from there SJC went on an 8-0 run--which featured a trio of goals by Prokesch--that stretched all the way to 5:07 of the third quarter.

A pair of goals by freshman James Elgort in the fourth completed the attack's first-career hat trick as St. Joseph's, outscoring Vincent's 3-1 in the final frame, cruised to an 18-3 victory.

Sophomore Adam Sivon (4-3) started between the pipes for SJC and made six saves in 30 minutes of action. Sophomore Andrew Yoli made two saves in the third quarter and freshman Ryan Wheeler was credited with three in the fourth.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Wednesday, April 4 when they host Dominican College on Senior Day at 5:30 pm. The senior ceremony will begin at 5:15 pm.
