Men’s Lacrosse Secures 16-11 Win at Maritime

Throggs Neck, NY| Behind a four-goal performance from senior Casey Hickey, the St. Joseph's College (L.I.) men's lacrosse team picked up a crucial 16-11 victory at SUNY Maritime on Friday evening.

The win sees the Golden Eagles improve to 6-4 overall on the year and 2-3 in Skyline Conference play as the Privateers slip to 8-4 (2-2 Skyline).

Hickey's team-best four goals were the result of the midfielder's six shots. Senior Matt Prokesch tallied three goals and two assists, and sophomore Zak Jones contributed two goals and two assists.

Sophomore Declan Canevari went 22-6 on faceoffs and scooped up a game-high 11 ground balls. Senior Tommy Johnson caused a pair of turnovers and was credited with six ground balls.

SJC came out hot, scoring the game's first three goals in the opening 10 minutes. Maritime managed four second-half goals--two in the first quarter and two in the second--but at the break it was a 7-5 advantage for the guests.

A pair of goals from Hickey six minutes into the third quarter kickstarted a period that saw the Golden Eagles outscore the Privateers 5-2 (12-7) and position themselves for an eventual 16-11 victory.

Freshman Adam Sivon (6-4) made seven saves on 18 shots in his 10th start of the season. Maritime's Brendan McNally was forced into making 12 saves.

St. Joseph's was 3-for-8 on man-up situations and outshot the hosts 35-31 in the contest.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Tuesday, April 17 when they visit Stockton University for a 7:00 pm non-conference showdown.
