Men’s Lacrosse Edge by Farmingdale on Friday

Farmingdale, NY| Despite leading at halftime, the St. Joseph's College (L.I.) men's lacrosse team dropped an 8-7 road decision to Skyline Conference rival Farmingdale State on Friday evening.

The loss sends the Golden Eagles to 1-1 on the year and in conference play as the Rams improve to 2-0.

The SJC offense was powered by sophomore Jack Gilbride, who posted a team-high three points on one goal and two assists.

Junior Tim McCann tallied two goals and scooped up three ground balls and sophomore Dylan Gabriel pitched in with a pair of helpers.

Senior Vincent Raccuglia caused four turnovers and collected four ground balls.

SJC jumped out to an early 2-0 lead courtesy of goals from McCann and junior Robert Lopez and later took a 3-2 lead into the break after senior Ryan Wheeler tallied with 1:35 left in the second quarter.

Tied at five headed to the fourth, Farmingdale scored three-straight to take an 8-5 lead. SJC scored two late goals--McCann with 1:19 remaining and Gilbride with 51 seconds to play--to make it interesting (8-7), but the Rams rode out the clock for a one-goal victory.

Junior goalie Andrew Brust made nine saves for SJC in a contest that saw his side outshot 35-21. St. Joseph's was edged 12-7 in faceoffs. Sophomore Tim Bruno won six of 18 draws.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Friday, April 9 when they host SUNY Maritime for a Skyline Conference contest at 5:00 pm. Live video and stats will be available at sjcgoldeneagles.com. No spectators are permitted on site.
