Men’s Lacrosse Toppled by Maritime at Home

Patchogue, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) men's lacrosse team was defeated, 9-6, by SUNY Maritime in a Skyline Conference contest played at Danzi Stadium on Friday evening.

With the loss, the Golden Eagles slip to 1-2 overall and in conference play as the Privateers improve to 4-0.

Directing the SJC offense was sophomore Jack Gilbride, who contributed two goals and one assist. Junior Robert Lopez went for one goal and two assists, and junior Matt Trautman tallied two goals.

Junior goalie Andrew Brust (1-2) made 14 saves on 23 shots and led SJC in ground balls (3) and caused turnovers (2).

Trautman put SJC ahead 1-0 with 57 second remaining in the first quarter, but two goals by the Privateers inside the first 10 minutes of the second quarter put the guests ahead 2-1.

Lopez would tally just over a minute later (2-2), but Kyle Orton's goal for Maritime with 1:33 left in the second ensured the guests entered the break up 3-2.

Maritime went on to outscore SJC 4-2 in the third quarter, extending its lead to three goals (7-4). Trautman and Gilbride would notch consolation tallies with 4:27 and 1:28 remaining in regulation, respectively, en route to a 9-6 defeat.

The Privateers held a 14-4 edge in faceoffs and was credited with 42 ground balls to SJC's 15. St. Joseph's registered 15 clears, four more than the guests. 

The Golden Eagles return to action on Tuesday, April 13 when they visit the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy for a Skyline Conference contest at 7:00 pm. On-site spectators are strictly prohibited. Live video and stats will be available here at sjcgoldeneagles.com.
