Men's Lacrosse Doubles Up Manhattanville, 8-4

Purchase, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) men's lacrosse team secured a Skyline Conference victory, 8-4, at Manhattanville College on Friday evening. The Golden Eagles improve to 2-3 overall and in conference play with the win as the Valiants slip to 0-3.

Powering the SJC offense was junior Tim McCann, who tallied three goals and one assist for four points. Junior Matt Trautman also posted four points on two goals and two assists, and junior Robert Lopez contributed a pair of goals.

Senior Jesse McKeever was credited with a team-best three ground balls and sophomore Tim Bruno won seven of 14 faceoffs.

SJC keeper Andrew Brust was credited with 14 saves in a contest that saw his side outshot 42-35.

The guests came out of the gate hot, scoring four unanswered goals in the first quarter off the sticks of Lopez (12:53), McCann (8:43, 0:39), and Trautman (2:37).

McCann and Trautman would tally once each in the second quarter to ensure SJC entered haltime up 6-0, but Manhattanville's Nick Cornelia snapped the Golden Eagles' run with a pair of goals in the third quarter at 4:49 and 2:46.

Sophomore Jack Gilbride and Lopez both tallied in the fourth quarter but their goals were matched by M'Ville's Cornelia and Sean Larkin (8-4).

Despite being outshot, SJC was credited with 18 clears to Manhattanville's 17. The Valiants held a 20-12 edge in ground balls.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Tuesday, April 27, when they host SUNY Purchase for a Skyline Conference contest at Danzi Stadium at 2:00 pm. A maximum of two guests per student-athlete will be permitted on site. More information here.
