Men's Lacrosse Holds Off Purchase on Tuesday

Patchogue, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) men's lacrosse team held off SUNY Purchase for a 12-8 win at Danzi Stadium on Tuesday afternoon. With the win, the Golden Eagles improve to 3-3 overall and in Skyline Conference play as the Panthers drop to 0-3.

The duo of sophomore Jack Gilbride and junior Tim McCann were responsible for 10 of SJC's 12 goals--the former tallied four goals and four assists while the latter went for six goals on 12 shots. Both were credited with four ground balls apiece while McCann caused a team-high four turnovers.

Junior Robert Lopez scored once and dished out a pair of helpers, and sophomore Dylan Gabriel had two points on one goal and one assist. Junior Brian Hunter scrooped up five ground balls and tacked on an assist.

Sophomore Tim Bruno won 14 of 22 faceoffs and scooped up a game-high eight ground balls. Junior keeper Andrew Brust (3-3) made eight saves on 12 shots and was credited with five ground balls.

Scoring early and often, SJC tallied five times in the first quarter (McCann 4x, Gilbride) and three more times in the second quarter (Gilbride 2x, McCann) to ensure the hosts took an 8-2 lead into the halftime.

Up 9-4 headed to the third, Gabriel, McCann, and Lopez tallied to extend the lead to eight goals (12-4) before Purchase notched the final four goals of the game in last six minutes (12-8).

St. Joseph's outshot the Panthers 39-31 and held the edge in clears (20-19). Purchase scooped up 50 ground balls to SJC's 48.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Friday, April 30 when they wrap up their regular season with a Skyline Conference contest vs. Mt. St. Mary at 2:00 pm. A limited amount of spectators are permitted on-site. More information here.
