Men’s Lacrosse Edged in Skyline Semis

Throggs Neck, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) men's lacrosse team was defeated 8-7 by top-seeded SUNY Maritime in the Skyline Conference semifinal round on Wednesday evening in the Bronx.

The fourth-seeded Golden Eagles erased a two-goal halftime deficit but ultimately came up short of an upset. They finish the season with a 4-4 overall mark as the Privateers improve to 7-0 and advance to the conference championship game.

Dylan Gabriel tallied twice and added two helpers for SJC and Jack Gilbride went for two goals and one assist. Jesse McKeever caused two turnovers and scooped up a team-best five ground balls.

SJC took an early first-quarter lead when Gabriel tallied inside the first four minutes of the contest but the guests fell behind 3-1 at the close of the first frame and later 5-3 at halftime.

The Golden Eagles drew level in the third quarter with Gabriel's second tally (5-4) and Max Trautman's mark (5-5)  with 3:53 remaining in the third period.

Tim McCann put the guests ahead 6-5 4:29 into the fourth quarter, but a pair of Maritime goals inside the next six minutes nudged the Privateers back ahead, 7-6.

Vincent Raccuglia knotted the score at 7-7 with an unassisted mark with 3:58 to play in regulation, but Maritime secured a late-game winner when Colin Flannery scored at 2:13 (8-7).

SJC's Andrew Brust made 15 saves in a contest that saw his side outshot by a 54-23 margain. Maritime also held statistical advantages in ground balls (31-19) and faceoff wins (11-8).
