Men’s Lacrosse Outpaces Sage for Second Win of 2022

Albany, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) men's lacrosse team defeated The Sage Colleges, 14-8, in a non-conference contest in Albany on Saturday afternoon.

The Golden Eagles improve to 2-2 overall on the year with the win as the Gators drop to 4-4.

Powering the SJC offense was Jack Gilbride, who posted a game-best six points on three goals and three assists.

Michael Carere and Tyler Kollar contributed two goals apiece while the former scooped up a game-high seven ground balls and won 6 of 11 faceoffs.

Andrew Brust played all 60 minutes in goal for St. Joseph's and made 15 saves on 23 shots. He also became the first goalie in program history to score a goal when his second-quarter tally gave SJC a 5-2 lead.

After scoring four times in the first quarter (4-1), SJC matched its output in the second frame and took an 8-2 lead into the break.

Two goals apiece in the third quarter (10-4) made way for a wild fourth frame in which both teams scored four times.

SJC won 15 of 25 faceoffs in the contest but was outshot, 42-34, and was credited with fewer ground balls (48-39). St. Joseph's was 2-for-2 in man-up situations and killed off all three of Sage's man-power advantages.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Sunday, March 27, when they visit Mitchell for a non-conference contest at 1:00 pm.
