Men’s Lax Breezes Past Mitchell

New London, CT| Five Golden Eagles scored multiple times in the St. Joseph's College (L.I.) men's lacrosse team's 20-6 victory at Mitchell College on Sunday afternoon.

With the win, the Golden Eagles improve to 3-2 overall on the year as the Mariners drop to 2-8.

Junior Jack Gilbride led SJC with a game-best three goals on six shots. The attack was also credited with an assist and two ground balls.

Sophomore Michael Carere, Junior Kyle Strayer, and seniors Tim McCann and Matt Trautman all scored two goals each and were four of 14 players to tally for the guests.

Freshman Nik Allen scooped up a game-high seven ground balls, and junior Tim Bruno won eight of 11 faceoffs.

Senior Brust started in goal and made four saves on five shots in 30 minutes of action. Freshman Anthony Loiacono and sophomore Connor Van Dusen combined for five saves in the second half.

SJC scored early and often and went ahead 8-1 in the first quarter. At halftime the advantage was 13 goals (14-1).

Five of Mitchell's six goals came in the second half but it wasn't enough to overcome an insurmountable SJC advantage.

St. Joseph's held advantages in nearly all statistical categories including shots (56-25), faceoffs won (21-9), and ground balls (55-25).

The Golden Eagles return to action on Wednesday, April 6, when they host Kean University for a non-conference contest at Danzi Stadium at 6:00 pm.
