Men’s Lacrosse Drops Skyline Opener to Farmingdale

Patchogue, NY| Junior Jack Gilbride scored four times in the St. Joseph's College (L.I.) men's lacrosse team's 12-7 home defeat to Skyline Conference rival Farmingdale State at Danzi Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The loss sends the Golden Eagles to 3-4 overall on the year and 0-1 in Skyline play as the Rams improve to 8-1 and 2-0.

Gilbride's game-best four goals came via seven shots. The attack was also credited with two ground balls.

Sophomore Shawn Castro and senior Tim McCann dished out two assists apiece with the latter also collecting three ground balls.

Sophomore Michael Carere scooped up a team-best five ground balls and Anthony Dibene won seven of 10 faceoffs.

Senior Andrew Brust (L, 3-4) made 14 saves on 26 shots.

SJC fell behind 3-0 in the first quarter but tallied the next four goals–all scored by Gilbride–to take a 4-3 lead at 8:42 of the second quarter. Junior Kyle Strayer's goal with 1:11 to play in the second ensured the teams entered the break tied at five.

Farmingdale went on to tally the next four goals all inside the opening six minutes of the third quarter (9-5), and although the Golden Eagles brought two back over the next five minutes (9-7), the Rams held on for a 12-7 victory.

St. Joseph's was outshot 35-30 in the contest but matched Farmingdale in faceoffs won (11) and clears (21).

The Golden Eagles return to action on Tuesday, April 12, when they host Mt. St. Vincent for a Skyline Conference contest at Danzi Stadium at 6:00 pm.
