Men’s Lax Doubles Up Manhattanville on Senior Day

Patchogue, NY| The St. Joseph's University (L.I.) men's lacrosse team secured a vital 10-5 Skyline Conference victory over Manhattanville College on Senior Day at Danzi Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The win sees the Golden Eagles move to 6-5 overall on the year and 3-2 in conference play as the Valiants drop to 3-10 and 2-3.

Goalie Andrew Brust, who made six saves, and attack Tim McCann, who scored twice and added a helper, were two of nine players honored in a pre-game Senior Day ceremony.

Jack Gilbride went for three goals, two assists, and four ground balls, and Richie Polizzi scored twice on seven shots.

Michael Carere won 16 of 18 faceoffs and provided one goal and two assists, and Jesse McKeever had one goal, one assist, and a game-high five ground balls.

A wild first quarter yielded a 5-2 advantage for the hosts, and at the break it was a 6-3 lead for SJLI.

Up 7-5 going into the fourth quarter, Nik Allen, McCann, and Polizzi all scored to extend the lead to five goals (10-5), and from there the SJLI defense closed up shop.

St. Joseph's held a massive 51-21 edge shots and won 44 ground balls to Manhattanville's 22. 

The Golden Eagles return to action on Tuesday, April 26, when they visit Mt. St. Mary for a Skyline Conference contest at 5:00 pm.
