Men’s Lax Topples Mt. St. Mary, Clinches Playoff Berth

Newburgh, NY| The St. Joseph's University (L.I.) men's lacrosse team clinched a 2022 Skyline Conference playoff berth with a 6-2 win at Mount St. Mary on Monday evening.

The Golden Eagles improve to 7-5 overall on the year and 4-2 in Skyline play. The Knights drop to 8-6 and 2-4 and are eliminated from playoff contention.

Jack Gilbride led the SJCLI offense with two goals and two assists. The junior was also one of three players with a team-best five ground balls.

Tim McCann went for one goal, three assists, and five ground balls, and Tyler Kollar had one goal and five ground balls.

Andrew Brust (W, 7-5) made 11 saves and Michael Carere won five of 10 faceoffs.

SJLI was in control throughout, scoring twice in the first quarter and once more in the second to take a 3-0 lead into the break.

Gilbride and Kollar scored in the third and McCann added a sixth in the fourth as St. Joseph's rode out a 6-2 victory.

SJCLI outshot MSMC 31-24 and scooped up 40 ground balls. The Knights won seven of 12 faceoffs.

The Golden Eagles wrap up their regular season with a Skyline Conference contest at home against the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy on April 30 at 6:00 pm.
