Men’s Lax Edged by USMMA on Saturday

Patchogue, NY| The St. Joseph's University (L.I.) men's lacrosse team was edged, 8-7, by the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in a Skyline Conference contest at Danzi Stadium on Saturday evening.

The loss sends the Golden Eagles to 7-6 overall and 4-3 in Skyline play as the Mariners improve to 9-6 and 6-1. SJLI will enter the Skyline Conference playoffs as the fourth seed.

The SJLI offense was powered by Tim McCann, who tallied two goals and two assists in the contest.

Anthony DiBene led all players with seven ground balls and Michael Carere won a game-best 11 faceoffs. 

Andrew Brust (L, 7-6) made eight saves on 16 shots in the SJLI goal.

The St. Joseph's offense got off the mark quickly, scoring four times in the first quarter before later taking a 6-3 lead into the break.

After USMMA tied the game at six early in the fourth, Zack Worsoe put the hosts back ahead, 7-6, but the Mariners tallied twice inside the final four minutes to capture an 8-7 victory. 

SJLI outshot USMMA 31-27 and held a huge 16-3 edge in faceoffs.

The Golden Eagles will play in the semifinal round of the Skyline playoffs this coming Wednesday.
