Cougars Pounce on Eagles in SJC's Home Opener

Patchogue, N.Y. — The St. Joseph's Golden Eagles' (0-3) home opener versus the Kean Cougars (2-1) on Wednesday night was a tough one to swallow, as the visitor's early jump set the tone for what became a 6-0 shutout.

A Cougar goal 36 seconds into the game was followed by three more by the end of the half, effectively clipping the Eagles' wings. With only three shots on goal none of SJC's attempts found the back of the net while Eagle goalie Avery Gomez (Bay Shore, N.Y. / Bay Shore) saved nine of Kean's 15 challenges.

SJC will attempt to avenge this loss on Saturday in their 1 p.m. home match against FDU-Florham, as they are set to host the Gary Smith Invitational Tournament. The Eagle's will take on Sage, at home, on September 21 in their first conference game of the season.
