Eagles Hold off Yeshiva for First Victory of the Season

Patchogue, N.Y. – It didn't come easy but the St. Joseph's Golden Eagles (1-10-2, 1-2-1 SKY) squeezed out a 2-1 win against Yeshiva (1-5-0, 1-3-0 SKY). With two goals in the second half the team was able to get over the hump for their first regular season and Skyline victory.

The Maccabees had more chances in the first half as the Eagles' six offsides in the half prevented them from finding a rhythm. St. Joseph's came out of halftime playing physical as they drew two early yellow cards but their aggressive play seemed to spark the offense.

Enrique Tirado (Smithtown, N.Y./St. Anthony's) broke through for his first goal of the season, three minutes into the second half. In the 60th minute, The St. Joseph's captains took over to seemingly put the game out of reach. Terrence Dzus (Central Islip, N.Y./Islip) found the foot of Fabio Alves (Holbrook, N.Y./Sachem East) to give the Eagles a two-goal advantage, but the Maccabees were not down and out.

Jack Sztrigler brought his team back into the game with three minutes remaining but it was too little, too late for Yeshiva as the Golden Eagles closed the game out.

The St. Joseph's Golden Eagles return home this Saturday at 1 p.m. to take on Mount St. Mary on Breast Cancer Awareness Day.
