Men’s Soccer Toppled by USMMA in Skyline Play

Kings Point, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) men's soccer team was defeated, 4-0, by the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in Skyline Conference play on Saturday afternoon.

The road defeat sends the Golden Eagles to 1-2 overall on the year and 0-1 in Skyline play as the Mariners improve to 3-4 and 1-0.

USMMA scored three times in the opening half, first in the 15th minute and later in the 23rd and 38th minutes.

Ben Davis tallied the Mariners second goal and notched another in the 59th minute when he beat SJC keeper Tyler Flaherty in a 2-on-1 opportunity on the break.

Flaherty was credited with three saves in a match that saw his side outshot 14-10. Sophomore James Dacos led the Golden Eagles with three shot attempts.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Tuesday, September 21, when they visit St. Joseph's College (Brkln) for a Skyline contest at 7:30 pm.
