Men’s Volleyball Earns Split at Kean University on Saturday

Union, NJ| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) men's volleyball team took a loss to #11 Kean University before earning a 3-1 victory over Arcadia University in non-conference road action on Saturday.

With the wins, the Golden Eagles improve to 2-1 on the season as the Cougars improve to 3-0 and the Knights slip to 2-1.

Kean 3, SJC 0

Tight through the whole match, the Golden Eagles were edged 25-23 in all three sets. In the third frame, a Will Flohr service ace tied the score up at 23, but back-to-back points for the Cougars clinched the three-game sweep.

Flohr hit .375 in the match and put down a game-best 12 kills. Sophomore Paul Curaro was credited with 10 kills and seven digs, and senior Tyler Jones dished out a game-high 29 assists.

Junior Danny McNamara collected a team-best 10 digs, and sophomore Matthew Amberge recorded five kills.

SJC 3, Arcadia 1

The Golden Eagles stormed to a 25-15 win in set one but failed to clinch victory in the second set with the score 25-24 in their favor. The Knights posted two of the next three points and eventually took the frame in dramatic 29-27 fashion.

Tight through the final two sets, SJC squeaked out 25-21 and 25-20 wins to earn the 3-1 match victory.

Flohr led SJC with 14 kills and was also credited with nine digs. Curaro contributed 13 kills while sophomore Matt Cole hit .444 and collected six kills.

McNamara's 13 digs proved to be a team-best.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Thursday, January 25 for their 2018 home opener vs. non-conference rival Brooklyn College at 7:00 pm. Live video and stats here.
