Men’s Volleyball Drops Pair at Stevens Tech

Hoboken, NJ| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) men's volleyball team dropped a pair of non-conference contests to #3 Stevens Tech (3-0) and Division I St. Francis (3-1) in Hoboken, NJ on Sunday afternoon.

With the losses, the Golden Eagles drop to 10-7 overall on the year and have only Skyline Conference contests remaining on their 2020 regular-season schedule.

#3 Stevens 3, SJC 0
St. Joseph's led for virtually the entire first set but after Stevens knotted the score at 19 the hosts snatched six of the set's final seven points to earn a 25-20 victory. SJC failed to recover and dropped sets two and three by 25-16 and 25-11 scorelines, respectively. 

The Golden Eagles struggled to generate offense, hitting just .037 in the match. Senior Will Flohr led the team with seven kills at a .333 hitting rate. Flohr was also credited with a team-high six digs.

Senior Matt Cole went for six kills and six digs, and junior Jason Siriban dished out 18 assists. Senior Paul Curaro went for three kills and one ace.

St. Francis 3, SJC 1
SJC dropped a tough-fought first set, 27-25, and fell behind 2-0 in the match after suffering a 25-18 loss in the second. In the third, the Golden Eagles used a mid-set rally to surge to a 25-19 victory, effectively fending off a sweep but were topped 25-20 in the fourth.

Curaro hit .111 in the match and put down a game-best 16 kills. The outside hitter was also credited with five digs and two aces.

Cole hit .206 and went for 15 kills and six digs. Senior Kyle Biggers hit a game-best .643 and recorded 10 kills. 

Siriban provided 41 assists and a team-best seven digs, while Biggers was credited with a team-best three blocks. 

The Golden Eagles return to action on Monday, March 2 when they host Yeshiva University for a Skyline Conference contest at 7:00 pm.
