Men's Volleyball Picks Up a Pair of Wins over Yeshiva

Patchogue, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) men's volleyball team earned a pair of Skyline Conference wins over Yeshiva University in the Danzi Center on Sunday afternoon. The Golden Eagles improve to 3-0 on the season, 3-0 Skyline while the Maccabees fall to 0-5, 0-5 Skyline.

SJCLI 3, YU 0

The Golden Eagles opened the match with a 25-6 win in set one before jumping to a 2-0 match lead with a 25-8 win in the second set.  The Maccabees came out to a 6-3 lead in the third set, but the Golden Eagles would go on to tie the score up at 7 before going on an 18-1 run to close out the match with a 25-8 win.

Freshman Mark Williams was a perfect 5-for-5 at the net with three service aces. Senior Jack Solen led all players with six kills with senior David Slager finishing with five kills and nine aces.

Freshman Clint Johnson tossed a match-best 16 assists with junior Michael Lane adding 10. Liberos Thomas Renick and Michael Bosco recorded six and four digs, respectively.

Alon Jakubowitz led the Maccabees with four kills. Michael Stark dished four assists with Sibi Selbarajah finishing with five digs.

SJCLI 3, YU 0

SJCLI held the Maccabees to just eight points in the first two sets (25-8, 25-8) before completing their second sweep of the afternoon with a 25-10 win in set three.

Williams led the Golden Eagles with a match-high 10 kills, five aces, and six digs. Slager knocked down eight kills with junior Quinn Foglia pitching in with seven kills and five aces.

Johnson recorded 22 assists with Lane adding seven.

Yeshiva's Ariel Rivkin and Jakubowitz finished with two kills apiece. Stark recorded six assists with Selbarajah finishing with four digs.

The Golden Eagles return to the Danzi Center when they host New Jersey City University on Thursday, Mar. 18. Game time is set for 7:00 pm.
