Men's Volleyball Earns USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award

AVCA Release

Lexington, KY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) men's volleyball team earned the USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award presented by the American Volleyball Coaches Association on July 19.

The award is given to collegiate volleyball programs that posted a GPA over 3.30 during an academic year. The award was first handed out for the 1992-93 academic year.

SJC was one of 18 NCAA Division III men's programs honored and the only in the Skyline Conference to receive the accolade. In total, 35 men's programs were honored across all NCAA divisions.

"Even though teams might not have played during their usual season or may not have competed at all during the past year, coaches still found ways to lead their players to academic excellence," said AVCA Executive Director Kathy DeBoer. "This is a testament to the important role volleyball coaches play in their players success both on and off the court."

The Golden Eagles posted a 7-1 overall record in 2021 with their only loss of the season coming to NJCU in the Skyline Conference final on April 10.
