Men’s Volleyball Sweeps Illinois Tech on Friday

Patchogue, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) men's volleyball team swept Illinois Tech, 3-0, in a non-conference contest inside the Danzi Center on Friday evening.

With the win, the Golden Eagles improve to 10-2 overall on the year as the Scarlet Hawks drop to 5-5.

Leading the way for SJC were Paul Curaro and Mark Jensen, who both registered 14 kills in the match. Curaro hit .300 and added seven digs, and Jensen, a .290 hitter, went for nine digs and two blocks.

Clint Johnson posted a game-high 36 assists, and Mark Williams matched Jensen for a team-best nine digs.

The Golden Eagles, down 23-22 in the first set, rallied for three-straight points to take the first set 25-23.

In similar fashion, SJC tallied the final three points of the second set to clinch a 25-22 set win, and in the third cruised to a 25-15 victory.

As a team, St. Joseph's hit .283 and limited the Scarlet Hawks to a .060 hitting percentage. The hosts held a 33-29 edge in total digs.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Sunday, March 6, when they host New Jersey City and Yeshiva for a Skyline Conference tri-match in the Danzi Center beginning at 10:00 am.
