Men's Volleyball Starts Skyline Play with a Pair of Sweeps

Patchogue, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) men's volleyball team opened up Skyline Conference action with a pair of wins over New Jersey City University and Yeshiva University in the Danzi Center on Sunday afternoon.

The Golden Eagles improve to 12-2 on the season, 2-0 in conference play.

SJC 3, NJCU 0

 St. Joseph's opened with a 25-20 win behind their match-best .333 hitting percentage as a team. SJC went on to take set two 25-16 before completing the sweep by edging the Gothic Knights (10-6, 1-2 Skyline) 25-22 in the third set.

Paul Curaro knocked down 10 kills while hitting at a team-best .474.  The outside hitter also recorded a match-high 11 digs and three aces. Mark Jensen also finished in double figures with 10 kills and Mark Williams pitched in with nine kills. Middle hitter Quinn Foglia contributed seven kills and four blocks.

Setter Clint Johnson tossed a match-best 32 assists with libero Jason Siriban picking up eight digs.

NJCU was led by Jonathan Andrews with 11 kills and three aces with Brandon DeSilva adding seven kills. Setter Leo Ferrari recorded 19 assists and libero Daniel Esteva collected 10 digs.

SJC 3, YU 0

In their second match of the day, the Golden Eagles made quick work of the Maccabees (1-3, 0-2 Skyline) claiming 25-11, 25-14, and 25-10 wins in straight sets.

Curaro and Matthew Dolan both finished with a match-best eight kills with Foglia and Jensen recording six kills apiece.

Setters Michael Lane and Johnson dished 24 and nine assists, respectively, and Thomas Renick picked up a team-high six digs.

Alon Jakubowitz led Yeshiva with seven kills with Amitai Kolom pitching in with two. Setter Benjamin Goldstein recorded four assists for the Maccabees with Benjamin Smillie and Michael Stark both finishing with a match-best seven digs.

The Golden Eagles return to the Danzi Center on Tuesday, March 8 when they host #11 New York University at 7:00 pm.
